These are the top headlines from various web news sources:

New York Times - Violence in Iraq Forces 2 Big Contractors to Curb Work

CNN - Trains collide, explode in North Korea (Hang on...)
Sky News - MANY CASUALTIES REPORTED (Hooray! They've found a picture of a train! Now it's proper news! http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1132362,00.html )
So the moral of the story is: it serves you right for being cameraless North Koreans.
Still, I bet this is all over the news as soon as Reuters get a cameraman in there. Reminds me of that Iranian earthquake.
The Korean story was 'other news' on Channel 4. Similar to the story of the Islamic girl being attacked by Christian militant-evil man - no mainstream coverage?! And like the Iranian earthquake - it's simply ridiculous.
Earlier, was watching how MPs are putting up that screen in Parliament to prevent 'Al-Quaeda terrorists'
Not terrorists, they have to be that evil Islamic extremist group.
I think it's something more along the lines of, "The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic."
"He who controls the present, controls the past." Was one out of the book "1984".
And that other quote, "Kill one person and you are called a murderer, kill a million and you are hailed as a conquerer." Who said that? Was it Alexander the Great or someone else?

That is actually a real life quote by Stalin, by the way.
"When you kill one, it is a tragedy. When you kill ten million, it is a statistic!" - character Stalin, Command & Conquer Red Alert.
Headline news now, anyway.
But I see what you are saying, and we only get big coverage when something happens to our "friend" the US or some other country nearby eg. Spain, or when someone videotapes the carnage. 3000 is just a statistic to most, and why should we be bothered by the deaths of those people?
While it is a terrible tragedy, N Korea's reaction to it is going to keep it out of the headlines for a while - news agencies wont keep giving a story space with no facts, no pictures and no specifics. I'd expect to see it more if/when a bit of information gets out - Korea don't tend to be open with their activies..
