Just been looking around on the internet and saw a news story that two trains have collided and exploded in North Korea, killing up to 3000. Luckily all of these people are dirty little foreigners who have weird yellow skin and talk funny so there is absolutely no need to be worried, upset or interested by this news. Although the death toll is apparently comparable with 9/11 there will be no Hollyoaks-displacing round the clock news coverage, mainly because nobody in North Korea thought to videotape the explosions! When will communists learn that simply being 'on fire' is no excuse for depriving BBC viewers of some apocalyptic news footage to keep them interested until the sport comes on? Thankfully the world's media have responded to the North Koreans' disgraceful laziness by ignoring the story as much as possible, aided as always by the North Korean government's decision to cut off international phone contact with the area - nice one, Kim, that'll teach them a lesson!

These are the top headlines from various web news sources:

Guardian - Blair: a no vote means no
BBC - Blair rules out repeated EU polls
Washington Post - Columnist McGrory Dies at 85 (Noooo!)
New York Times - Violence in Iraq Forces 2 Big Contractors to Curb Work
Al Jazeera - Sharon back Gaza pullout or lose U.S. assurances
CNN - Trains collide, explode in North Korea (Hang on...)
Sky News - MANY CASUALTIES REPORTED (Hooray! They've found a picture of a train! Now it's proper news! http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1132362,00.html )

So the moral of the story is: it serves you right for being cameraless North Koreans.

Still, I bet this is all over the news as soon as Reuters get a cameraman in there. Reminds me of that Iranian earthquake.

I was playing RA earlier.

The Korean story was 'other news' on Channel 4. Similar to the story of the Islamic girl being attacked by Christian militant-evil man - no mainstream coverage?! And like the Iranian earthquake - it's simply ridiculous.

Earlier, was watching how MPs are putting up that screen in Parliament to prevent 'Al-Quaeda terrorists'

Not terrorists, they have to be that evil Islamic extremist group.

Or at least, not "you".

I think it's something more along the lines of, "The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic."

That's the quote I had in mind when I was writing my quote. And did he really say it, or not? Becasue some of the quote's from C&C are real in a sense, eg. He who controls the past, controls the future.
"He who controls the present, controls the past." Was one out of the book "1984".

And that other quote, "Kill one person and you are called a murderer, kill a million and you are hailed as a conquerer." Who said that? Was it Alexander the Great or someone else?

That is actually a real life quote by Stalin, by the way.

I know this is a quote from a videogame - but I have always considered it to be quite true to life.

"When you kill one, it is a tragedy. When you kill ten million, it is a statistic!" - character Stalin, Command & Conquer Red Alert.

Headline news now, anyway.

But I see what you are saying, and we only get big coverage when something happens to our "friend" the US or some other country nearby eg. Spain, or when someone videotapes the carnage. 3000 is just a statistic to most, and why should we be bothered by the deaths of those people?

It was headline news on the BBC site around 3:15pm this afternoon..Like, when school finished.

While it is a terrible tragedy, N Korea's reaction to it is going to keep it out of the headlines for a while - news agencies wont keep giving a story space with no facts, no pictures and no specifics. I'd expect to see it more if/when a bit of information gets out - Korea don't tend to be open with their activies..

Wow, that sucks. Not heard a thing about this until now. HWen did it happen? I didn't hear owt on Radio 2 up until 4 this afternoon. - Then again, if they start with Tony Blairs, I tend to block out the rest.
