So the moral of the story is: it serves you right for being cameraless North Koreans.
Still, I bet this is all over the news as soon as Reuters get a cameraman in there. Reminds me of that Iranian earthquake.

I've not seen much evidence of their hatred being on this scale. The country is very secretive though, so I guess we can't expect to. Heck, I heard on this morning's news they thought the only reason this got out at all was because the explosion could be seen from the Chinese border...
But as for people believing themselves to be superior, doesn't everyone?
No offence, but your post indicates you consider yourself superior to them.
And that attitude is generally mirrored by the rest of the west, and you're probably right that the NKs hold the view too.
Ultimately, we all have different beliefs and values. We try to live to our own values, and judge people by the same standards.
Since everyone has a different ideal, which other people aren't even aiming for, it's inevitable that when you judge people by who comes closest to your particular ideal, you'll come out on top.
My thoughts, although I think the original post overestimated media disinterest, had the death toll been 3000 (or if it was), it'd still have been treated with less.. sympathy than sept 11.
I guess we, as a species, have a warped perspective on the scale of accidental deaths, or mass-killings taking place over time, that either don't carry immediate shock value or incite the same sense of blame.
> it's the people themselves who are cheering when they hear of us

Nice use of divisional language. Can you hinestly say you saw thousands of North Koreans out on the streets chanting with glee at the downfall of the Twin Towers? I saw some radical Muslims and some other idiots, and maybe some North Koreans did...and maybe they don't like us..
they won't hear a bad word said about their

So ALL of North Korea is;
A) Brainwashed, prejudiced, all groveling in the face of their divine leaders?
B) If so, completely to blame for living in a state where they are brought up to be so, because they know no other way?

Exactly - why would they believe it then?! You keep on saying yourself, the government represses them, and yet you also say it's all the populations fault!

I'm sure a hell of a lot of 'us Westerners' do so to! Again, 8yr olds! Can you blame them for irrational hatred, when they are being corrupted and know no better?
most of their philosophy is geared around the destruction

Since when? For generations? Or since 1953? It is the government, and you seem to be effectively saying that all North Koreans are mad devotees to their leaders, ready to attack the evil West at any moment. Since when was a nation so simple?

Riiighht...
let them believe it then, and see how much they believe it when they are watching their young son or daughter being tortured to death in front of their eyes.
they are taught from a young age to hate all westerners. 8 year old children believe that bush and blair are evil and need to be destroyed. most of their philosophy is geared around the destruction of us. yes it's the goverments fault for brainwashing these people, but at the end of the day, it has been like that for generations, and their hatred for us is a dangerous thing.
it's like we're at war, only unofficially.
>> so forgive me if I don't shed a tear.
One tiny slight flaw in your statement.
You say 'they torture their own people' and say it's bad, which it quite clearly is - the people are dying.
Then you say 'forgive me if I don't shed a tear'
Who died?! The government who do these things or the poor people?!!

Sounds like Marilyn Manson's Fight Song.
they applaud when americans are murdered by terrorists and are in my view a major threat to the 'civilised' west.
they tried to invade south korea, then blamed it on south korea, even though there is rock solid evidence to the contrary.
they change every piece of news and information so that it sounds as though the entire world is evil, and they are righteous, and won't allow any unauthorised filming/film-making.
if a civilian fails to comply with their ridiculous laws, they are thrown into prison to be tortured for the rest of their lives, as are their entire family, including unborn babies.
they have massive torture camps all over their country where they basically torture people to death daily, there is even evidence to suggest they experiment on their own population.
the majority of the population remain enthusiastic about worshipping their fearless leaders though, and watch the same propaganda video twice a day, every day. It's almost like the nazis are running the country.
so forgive me if I don't shed a tear.
Also, you shouldn't really be surprised that this story hasn't been covered quite as much as the more mundane stories that are currently circulating the media, N. Korea was quick to cut off international telephone lines so that information on the crash couldn't be leaked out.
