Ricky Gervais appealing for the return of leaked Office scripts, calling them a "christmas present for the nation". Oh. Dear. The Office was weak at best. I think he's fallen foul of the BBC's marketing department.

I wish those scripts had come through my letterbox. I would sell them to the highest bidder to wipe the smile off of Ricky Gervais' smarmy squashed piggy face.

I thought, and still do think, The Office is one of the most understated and fantastic comedies of recent late.

You won't understand unless you have worked in office culture. It's the pain of recognition at characters, situations and the horrible realisation that these people are you.
If you're at school or Uni, you can laugh at the funny man called Brent but you won't cringe with a faint recollection that you've done/said/seen something almost identical.
It's a comedy of pain and itchingly embarassing self-awareness.

But then I've seen people proclaiming the genius of Bo Selecta & other formulaic "HAHAHAHAHAH" type shows.

The Office belongs in the same region as Larry Sanders - referential, self-aware comedy presenting uncomfortable truths with a slightly distorted sense of realism.

The Office rules.

Looks like they've ended up in my town too. For a sleepy market village, we get in the news a fair bit =) Could always hunt them down and burn them..

I don't understand why everybody seems to love The Office.

I saw a few episodes from the first series, the series everyone got all hyped up about, and it was crap.
It wasn't even remotely funny.
