The BBC has launched another writing competition, with a twist. 8 "famous" authors have each begun a short story and it is for us to finish one off, in no more than 1200 words.

By the way, I've got the horror one in the bag, so don't even think about entering. Here is a preview of my ending to demonstrate why this is so.

"He looked on mortified, as the nasty thing dripping with scary stuff came closer, in a frightening shamble.

Clump

Clump

Clump

He looked at the nameless horror and screamed.

It was someone he knew that he had done something to once and that was very terrifying.

He screamed.

Again".

I've already provided the winning entry.

"The tatoo on the thumb began to throb in Billy Bone's pocket. He picked it out like a carrion crow picks a scary eyeball out of the face of a zombie. He was very afraid and scared. Very scared and afraid. He placed the thumb into his mouth and started to chew.

Chew

chew chew

chew

he chew chewed like a train ((c) the sagacious one)

then he swallowed.

He then sicked up a message on the floor.

He then sicked up a message on the floor.

The thumb was repeating on him

He died."

I want to write a book.

I love the styles of Philip K. Dick and Michael Marshall Smith, so I'd like to write something similar.

yes indeedy.

maybe I'll have a crack at this and treat the world to my virgin literary creative talents.
