Realism requires much more programming skill than just a the use of a rumble vest or a head set with a load of wires sticking out of it. Many of you got Conker and most of you have got to the 'It's War' chapter of the game. After the beach cut scene how many of you had developed a hatred for the Tediz? How can a game cause you to hate a load of polygons?
If you feel hate, love and enjoyment from playing a game then these games must feel real in order for you to feel these emotions. Also whilst you are playing games such as Zelda, Pokemon or Conker you get so wrapped up in a certain game the rest of your life seems to go by without you realising it.
People have most probably missed their train stops many a time whilst trying to catch Pikachu on their gameboy. If your house was burning down whilst you were fighting Gannon in Zelda you would probably burn to death! This is because you have been sucked into the game and during this period the game feals real enougth for you to ignore everything that is going on around you.
Realism is something really skilled designers can already create by making the game so addictive it pulls you in. So if reality really is the next step for gaming then it looks to me as if we have already reached it.
Here's to the future

Cheers and despite frustartion not being that good i did win a gameaday for it so it can't be that bad.
But i really hated the tediz for killing all my friends.
FUSTRATION!
F - U - S - T - R - A - T - I - O - N!!!
You knew exactly what I mean't Snipe and I'll be writing another part to the story soon...
I still don't agree with what you said about fustration (remember that topic), infact half the emotions you've mentioned above is caused by fustartion!
Also the title is taken from Shadowman when Legion said; What you search does exist it does indeed lie within the soul but only within certain ones certain dark souls.
Odd.
Anyway, charactisation isn't really realism, but I see what you're getting at. I think what we're looking at here is addiction more than anything...
On the subject of charactisation, would Solid Snake be as cool if he didn't smoke?
