Looks like the OS won't be shipping with all the features originally specified; the highly sought after WinFS feature will be dropped from Microsoft's next OS release, and other important features such as the Avalon UI will also be trimmed down. Bah, looks like XP is here to stay for a while then.

That's just the codename, just like Longhorn and Whistler. It'll be free, and will mostly consist of tons of securit updates. SPs are more used foir businesses rather than consumers anyway, since we can download them individually whenever we want with minimum of disruption.
Do we get to download SP2 for free? Because what I see from that article, it seems to be a "new" version of windows called SpringBoard. Set for release around June time.
