I, and many other people would agree that the PS2 is way to expensive. Ok, so the problem lies within Sony selling it to the dealers such as Special Reserve for big prices, but it is still a rip off for what it is. It plays DVD's, Playstation games, and music CD's, but for that same amount of money I can buy a cheap PC, which I would say is better, since it plays games and you can do your homework on it!

I really wanna get a PS2 but I simply cannot afford it, and even if I could, I would not pay that much for it. I will probably end up getting a PSone or a Dreamcast instead, coz that IS value for money.

What do U think?

As someone said,

"I bought the game for Z.O.E, The demo is just a really, really nice extra!"

I dont think people got ripped off with buying Z.O.E as its a fun game and maybe a bit repeative but the action is there which makes you want to play it. The demo maybe a incentive to get the game but when you play Z.O.E you wont regret it. I havent played the demo much. I had a faulty demo but it was replaced today. I have only played the demo through just the once.

Maybe Quake 3 is out on other platforms. DC, isnt as good as the PS2 version. The controls on it are rubbish as the DC controller isnt designed with 2 analouge sticks so makes it very hard to use. PC is a very good version as you get add ons which you can buy and get maps and skins from the Net. But to run it you need a PC which will cost more than a PS2 and will need upgrading to play all the new games. PS2 has a great version of Quake 3 with new weapons new levels and new game play modes. It runs smooth looks good and plays good. The reviews I have read say it bets the PC verison on everything apart from its control. But the control is the same as Timesplitters and the game takes into account of a little less accurate aiming and using damage zones. Which means if you dont quite hit the target it still damages it. I have the version on the PC and would be quite tempted to buy the PS2 version, but with exams and other new games I have got, I would have very little time to play on it, as once you play you will not want to stop.

Ok, ok. With all this information that you have dug up, i guess you've persuaded me to say that it is value 4 money. I didn't realise that Sony lost money on selling the consoles, but regained it via the games produced - sumone below said that.

But from what it looks like Sony are trying to aim the PS2 at the older generation. After a brief scanning thru the SR mag it shows that there are a bigger percentage of 'older games' than there are 'younger games'.

Maybe Sony should bring out a cheaper 'none DVD' console. Actually thats a bad idea because future DVD playstation games wont run, neither will the completely excellent demo disks you get free with PS2 mags!!!

So who cares if it's too expensive or not, do you all these people think it's expensive? Yes they do but they have bought it for quality games and a DVD player in one for £300.

If that is true, then how come people had problems with their launch machines, having to get Sony to send out replacements?

£300 is quite alot when you have no proper income i.e a student, like iam. I pre-ordered my machine as soon as SR started to do it. This gave me time to save up for the console and the games that I wanted. To be honest I am not a big spender of money, I usually save up so when games e.t.c come out I usually have the money to get the game with out thinking "Oh I better not buy this and this then in 2 weeks I can get the game". If you want one now I think Dixions do a interest free option where you pay montly. Also SR do the 6 month option where you pay a deposit then in 6 months you have to pay for the rest of the stuff you bought. This would mean you get your PS2 now then save up paying for it while you play with it.£300 is a fair price to pay because if Sony are losing money on the console they could have easily put the price up.

I heard that as well.
It is a really great piece of Hardware to have, and Sony do make a loss out of every unit as it has not been rushed - it has been built properly and how it shows!

I was lucky enough to have one on launch day, but I was not here that day! I had to go and get it at the Parcel Force Office, but once I got it back and set it up, it played wonderfully! It takes a bit of time to work out how to play the PS2 properly, but it is worth the money!

The bottom line is that Sony do not make money on the Consoles, but they make money on the Games!!!
