Just watched it. It's amazing. You must see it. It's so magical, so wonderfully made and emotional, even if it is a bit odd. See it.

That's all I have to say.

I think you'd get more out of the film if you're used to other Ghibli films or anime in general. If you watch this kind of movie if you're only used to seeing mainstream stuff like Disney then it may seem odd or hard to follow/grasp.
Maybe some people, seeing it was animated, expected a kind of Disney style mish-mash of cute talking animals, song and dance numbers and the like, but you don't get that; you get an intelligent movie that's not always clear cut, with meanings that go beyond what you see on screen and only a handful of talking animals.

Like some other people have already done, I'd definitely advise people who liked Spirited Away to check out some of Studio Ghibli's previous films.

It's the level of imagination and inventiveness that I enjoy with Ghibli films, shown particularly well with Spirited Away, and why I believe they dump on Disney from a great height when it comes to family friendly feature films. The simplicity but heartwarming feeling with Totoro, the coming of age tale with Kiki's Delivery Service, the eco messages combined with amazing action of Mononoke, the high-flying adventuring of Castle in the Sky, and a pig flying a plane in Porco Rosso; they enchant my mind as I watch them.

Great stuff.

I adored it.

As I've said on many occasions, for the various reasons listed below.

Woo etc.

I saw it at the cinema with a mate and it was ok allthough it was a bit sporadic, childish and away with the fairies for my liking. I didn't understand certain things, some things just seemed really under developed and random and it was all really cheery, cheery, happy, happy at some points without any contrasting really dark and scary bits. Everyone just says that I am expecting too much or simply the wrong things from a film like that though so I guess I should just appreciate it for what it is. It wasn't a bad film, just different to what I'm used to I guess.

I saw it at the cinema, and thought it was a truly excellent and refreshing film, but I wouldn't say it was emotional. Still the best film of last year, though.

He helps keep the boilers working, provides the medicinal bath waters and helps out Chihiro a few times. And his arms can stretch very long too.
A strange gruff creature he is.

Thanks, that must be it. I saw it in one of the posters in the cinema, was totally baffled by what its role was. Still am.

You could be thinking of Kamajii, a strange man/spider hybrid who runs the boilers with the help of his magical soot sprites?
