I went to stay with a friend. Both he and his brother played only two games that weekend. Ragnarok Online and TimeSplitters 2. Mainly Ragnarok Online. Now, most of you probably now what this is, but for those who dont, here goes...
In Korea, there is a comic called Ragnarok. It is based on a rather vague storyline, that a long time ago, Gods, Humans and Demons all fought in a great battle. After, they signed a truce.
Skip a millenia or so.
Everyone has forgotten about this war. There is no trouble. Humans (as we do) have become consumed by greed and selfishness. Suddenly strange outbreaks of monsters appear.
Rumours of "Ymir" appear, a demon, which is causing these attacks. He "drops" pieces, from the monsters. So some people seek to gather these pieces to destroy Ymir, others seek them for personal gain.
That's where you step in. You can choose your name, attributes, hair style and color. And it won't be long before you choose your profesion too. These profesions range from Merchants to Swordmen to Mages, and obviously some attributes are more important than others - you know the kind.
And so you set off with little but a knife and the clothes on your back, into the strange world of Ragnarok, fighting monsters, collecting, buying and selling items to gain more power as you level up to gain ultimate supremecy.
Sounds good... But nothing new. Not that that matters. After about an hour or so of play, maybe a day or so, when your character matures into it's own personality and job, you will get hooked. I guarantee it. The game will annoy you to hell. Seriously. Especially the merchants. You see, a lot of the fun in the game is the large part that items / weapons play, you can upgrade them into your own weapons using "cards" dropped from monsters or bought. But everyone is trying to make a buck.
You'll learn soon enough a few things...
"Cheap +7 Weapons! Cheap!" means "If you don't have over 1 Mill don't bother coming in."
"SALE!" means "Prices are the same as usual! Items are now being sold for 1,000 times they're value!"
And so on. And on. And on.
Everyone will exploit you, which is annoying. So you see, it's quite a tough thing, being addicted to an annoying game. Very annoying. Very annoying indeed.
Ugh.
Anyone else play it?
