Well, we’re two weeks into the return of SRW and we’ve already seen some dramatic events and excellent matches. Let’s get straight into the action!
Let’s start with the Euro-Continental title picture at the moment. We saw 2 triple threat number 1 contender matches to decide who would face off one on one for the Euro-Continental title. The first of the triple threat matches involved Christian, Jetster and Rhyno. Rhyno picked up the victory over Jetster, although Reaver interfered and took out Christian. There have been no repercussions of that attack; perhaps there will be soon.
The second triple threat involved Anarchy, Eddie Guerrero and Big Show. The Big Show did a promo hyping his match but it didn’t help, as Anarchy was the winner, pinning Eddie Guerrero. The final would therefore involve Rhyno and Anarchy for the title. Anarchy showed a lot of disrespect; mostly for the title he was fighting for, but also for his opponent. Reaver interjected himself in the match, mainly at Anarchy’s expense, resurrecting old feelings of hatred between the two of them. Anarchy got pinned and then promised revenge on whoever gets in his way. What can we expect from Anarchy now? Anyway, congratulations to Rhyno on winning the Euro-Continental title. A new challenger will no doubt be awaiting him this week.
Let’s mention briefly the Cruiserweight title. Rey Mysterio faced Scotty 2 Hotty for the Cruiserweight title and Rey Mysterio picked up the win. Respect was shown between the two after the match. Congratulations to Rey Mysterio and we’ll have to wait and see who will be the next challenger in line for the title.
There was a big win for The Undertaker when he returned as the Deadman. He pinned Kurt Angle and will be a major force. Perhaps we’ll see him in action this week.
The first week on Eclipse saw a 4-way cage match. It was between Lesnar, Orton, RVD and Goldberg. Confusion reigned, as Orton and Lesnar were both declared the winners. Orton and Lesnar faced off in a one on one match and Lesnar prevailed, even though Triple H and Batista interfered. Also, Orton and The Hurricane had words a couple of weeks ago and we can only speculate as to how this will play a part in proceedings. Orton also fancies his chances as a contender for the Euro-Continental title. Perhaps all will be made clear this week.
Another feud on the boil is between The Rock and Vitamin C a.k.a Jericho and Christian. It all started on the first week. The Rock cut a promo declaring his intentions of beating Chris Jericho. The Rock went on to beat Jericho, even with Christian interfering. Christian got the last laugh as he hit the Unprettier on The Rock after his victory. This led to Christian being booked in a match against The Rock. Christian picked up the win over The Rock after a lot of interference from Jericho and the numbers game is starting to tell on The Rock. The Rock is not scheduled to appear this week but this feud is not over.
The Hardcore title is one of the toughest titles to win, due to the intensity of the matches. The quest for a new Hardcore Champion has begun with a first of 2 4-way matches to decide the No.1 contenders. Booker T, Krusher, Hawk and Batista were the participants. A brutal encounter saw Hawk come out the winner and become one of the No.1 contenders. Krusher was unhappy and having to wrestle with a fever so he went on a rampage and destroyed Hawk. Where does this leave Krusher in the scheme of things? I’m sure we’ll find out this week. Also, Jonny Hammer turned face and has stated his intentions to be Hardcore Champion. How will this effect future plans?
Now we move onto the main picture, the race to be the SRW World Champion. First, we needed to find out who the champion would be. Benoit and Grandprix had the World titles so it was one of these that would be the Champion. Grandprix came through and beat Benoit to become the World Champion. Congratulations to the new World Champion Grandprix!
Open season was declared as promos started flying in to declare themselves as No.1 contender to the World Title. First up, Triple H with Orton declared his intention to become Tag Champion and World Champion. A shocking twist developed as Scotty Dogg addressed the fans and turned face in his bid to finally win the World title. Stone Edge put his faction, DoA, on hold temporarily while he recruits new members, but states that he wants the title too! Reaver then turned heel and declared his intentions for the title!
All these promos resulted in numerous matches being made. Stone Edge faced tough opposition in fellow World Champion hopeful, Scotty Dogg. Thanks to some interference from Krusher and an unintentional distraction from Grandprix, who attacked Krusher at ringside, Stone Edge picked up the win. There are some questions to be answered here.
Triple H was in a match with one of the biggest stars that SRW have produced, The Cong Man. Cong Man fought off Evolution tactics to win the match. Unfortunately, Batista powerbombed Cong Man. Perhaps a feud between the two of them? How will this defeat affect Triple H’s title credentials?
Finally, The Elements, Reaver and Jetster, now heels, faced the New System Fighters, Grandprix and Jonny Hammer. Grandprix was saved from a Triple H beating by Jonny Hammer and was then declared as his protégé. Perhaps this is the reason why Jonny Hammer is going after the Hardcore title, the title that launched Grandprix’s career in SRW. Anyway, the tag match saw Triple H interfere and the arena black out, with DoA almost certainly behind it. The result was a DQ win for The New System Fighters but they were left out cold in the ring. Triple H again declared his title ambitions after the match; Grandprix responded and walked into yet another beating. Grandprix is definitely going to reply to this but what is going to happen?
That’s your round up for this week. Keep it tuned to SRW!
I enjoyed reading that.
10 thumbs up.
Anyway, I'm working on the new Eclipse now.
