Can one use a normal (JVC GR-DVX9) digital video camera as a web cam ? I know web cams are cheap, but as I already have the video & firewire cable it seems silly to buy another thing.
i bought a little teeny weeny cam that worked as a camera and webcam but that broke.
now i have a digital cam but i dont think that works as a webcam any of you think it will?

Depending on the camera then yes you should be able to. My Sony TRV14 can be used as a web camera when connected to the USB cable, not sure if you can do it through firewire though.

I know someone who did this recently, but I had to lend him my TV tuner card for it to work. It was an old camcorder though, so I'm not sure about digi-cams.
I'm sure you can, you just need to find the right software for it. Try looking at the JVC website and for your camera model; then see if any software is available regarding its use as a webcam.
