I'm doing a job shadow tomorrow and tuesday - rather glum really. I could be doing better things, like my girlfriend, but apparently it will give me an edge in uni applications so I s'pose it's not a total waste of time.
I'm going to be in the media department of a design and print company seeing how it all works. I'm wanting to be a writer but you can't exactly job shadow a writer:
"So, what you doing?"
"Writing"
"Awesome"..."How about now?"
"Writing"
"DUDE!"
Hmm.
They have a free coffee/tea/hot choc machine though so I'll be dosed up on caffene all day - it almost compensates for me getting up at 7:40 in the morning to catch a sodding bus.
Ah well - it'll be an experience.

It wasn't bad - got to input an order into the system and then did some scanning and designing for the latest Next catalogue.
Work shadowing is useless. If you put it down on a CV call it work experience.
I shadowed some big-cheese finance guy at the city council - all we did was write down a few numbers, chat, have lunch (he paid), write some more numbers, chat and then I went home.
At one point he said: "So, which university are you aiming for?"
"I'm not going to uni."
"Oh, so you're applying for a job in finance, then?"
"No."
"Well then, why are you here today?"
"Because it's better than college."
He laughed his ass off.

You have to get up at 7.40am?!! Poor. Old. You...
If you want to try out proper shadowing, just come kitted out all black and stay back leaning against cabinets and stuff... when lunch time appraoches move in for the kill.
