"WinXP system requirements?"

I'm thinking of getting WinXP but was wondering if it would perform slowly on my machine. I think this because I have a vage memory (false perhaps) of reading somewhere that it required 512MB's of RAM to work 'optimal', and because I only have 256MB's of RAM installed I'm worried that my current OS, which is Win98 SE, would perform faster than XP as my system meets its requirements.

It works fine on my 128MB RAM, 800MHx PC. Well not super fine but there's nothing that will really annoy you, I've seen 2Ghz PCs go slower!

64MB minimum, but as much as possible ideally :0)

I thought it was 128 minimum 256 recommended?

P.S: I never run background programs ever, but if it says somewhere in the XP manual that its needs 512MB's just to perform its best, which isn't even counting the memory being used by active programs, then I think I'm screwed.
