Long story short... the driver (her "friend") was driving home early one morning with her as the passenger. He'd been taking drugs for much of the night (we're talking the hard stuff, not just smoking some pot), was still under their influence, speeding, lost control, spun across the road, hit a pub wall, then ran off before the police arrived, leaving my cousin trapped in the car. She died a few hours later in hospital.
He turned himself in a few days later, after giving the drugs time to clear his system.
The sentence was passed today. He is already serving 5 years (I think it was... can't remember to be honest) for other offences.
He was given an additional 3 years for her death (to run consecutively), and a 15 year driving ban.
Wouldn't 15 years for the death and a 3-year driving ban when released be more appropriate?

A one legged roofer.
An electrician with no fingers. (Source: Today's daily Star as read by a colleague in work)
Also, the South Wales Echo reported on someone who commited many driving offences without a licence in an uninsured car with no tax.
He was under the influence of drugs and had already a long list of crimes on his record.
The Judge allowed him to go free if he apologised and sat quietly for half and hour.

And they wonder why the judicial system is laughed at?
I too have had first hand experience of the legal system in Britain at it's greatest. 30 witnesses, CCTV footage, correct identification at the identity parade.. being on parole.. for robbing the same shop.. Not Proven.
I laughed when I heard that.
