I'v just finished overclocking my athlon XP 2400+, taken it from 1.9Ghz to 3.28Ghz. I've taken the multiplier from 15 to 22.5 anf the external bus from 133 to 146 (I think, near that anyway). Ive left the voltages the same. Fistly is it ok to make the multiplier high because ive only ever heard people talking about the external bus speed. Secondly everytime I satrt up my pc it says it has recovered from a serous erroor ( it hasnt), althouth this isnt a major problem its annoyiong. Anyone had this haoppen to them and know how to solve it.
Thanks for any help

I think he probably got an estimated processor rating from somewhere like Sandra. Because a 3280XP rating is achievable with a T-Bred B easily.

Ummm...I can't help but feel a little doubtful here.

There is no way on earth any Athlon, short of liquid nitrogen cooling, would do 3.28 GHz. Especially on stock voltages, to overclock much you need to raise the voltage. That is also why you get an error message, because every time the PC boots, it crashes and defaults back down the way.

What is possible is to have reached a processor rating of 3280. But that would be much less in actual clock speed. For example my 3000XP runs at 2.1 GHz in reality.

I've written about overclocking properly before, I'll have a look for the post.

[Edit - found the thread I was talking about. Read it all and then ask questions if you need to. Hopefully you won't need to though. http://ukchatforums.reserve.co.uk/display_messages.php?threadid=93504&forumid=206 ]

[Edit 2 - higher clock speeds are now doable if you know what you are doing and have the best components. Most Bartons will do 2.4 GHz if you know what you are doing. Most Thoroughbreds, which all 2400XPs were, will often do 2.3 GHz with a bit of luck. What motherboard are you using? This is important when overclocking.]
