Regret
I am an empty bottle cast upon the waves
without purpose or motive I float
Perilously sailing though treacherous waters
until I reach my Bermuda Triangle
I am the crazy rock superstar in a turbulent life
cocaine and alcohol are my escapism
but Id give up all the years of fame and excess
to be back with my wife and two kids
I am this years top selling Christmas toy
fought over by rabid parents aiming to spoil their children
only to be forgotten come January
how I long to be a timeless rocking horse
I am the big shot lawyer in my $60,000 sports car
keeping criminals on the streets to buy my Prada shoes
material goods bring me momentary alleviation from my guilt
but I repent when I’m turned away at the pearly gates
I am the creator observing my blue green conception aimlessly spinning
watching corporations and science outthink my being
my meaning now vacant in the grand scheme of things
and I regret bringing life to it all
For the kids.
It wasn't meant to be depressing like most of my stuff, it's meant to show the significance of attitudes changing over time and how God has been forgotten or replaced in our lives. Except the bottle thing, thats just random.
A bit wobbly in bits (but I know you're unfamiliar with this kind o' poem) but I liked it all the same.
I don't know if I was supposed to be depressed - but I had happy music on in the background, so I wasn't.
Gold star.
