I was just flicking through ebay mostly though boredom, and found "Lindows" i thought this was a stupid typotill i clicked on the link and was most amused to see it exists. i have no interest in obtainig a copy but does anyone know anything about this comical rip off? is it ridiculously incompatible.

Depends on what you want to use it for. For silver surfers who just want to do a bit of letter typing and some email, it might be worth it being cheaper than Windows and all. For you or me, or anyone else who would want to mess around, install things, change settings etc, it would not be.

Lindows is a version of Linux wrapped up to be more user friendly than most, to be the type of operating system that average home users could use. It isn't compatible with Windows.

They run a special download service where you can download for free a whole bunch of linux software. You can get office type software, a bunch of utilities etc, all you would need pretty much apart from 3D games.

It is a good idea and was used on the cheap PCs on sale in Walmart. OK, so it wouldn't be good for me. But for someone that was just after a cheap PC for some internet etc it would be fine, the cost of the PC being less due to Lindows costing less than Windows.

More initiatives like this would be a good thing I think.
