MoJo works from half 4 until 9 every week day. MoJo has a media college course running from 9:15 to 4 (though it always ends at 3-3:30 and that's IF we have any work to do)

Since MoJo cannot travel at the speed of light, he has to leave college early to get home (1 hour) eat his dinner (about 20-30 minutes depending on what I cook) then get to work (30 minutes)

So I leave at 2pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays (Wednesdays and Thursdays are only half days, we finish at 12)

That seems fair, yes? Considering MoJo's friend gets the whole of Friday off because he works on a Thursday night. Well, it seems fair to MoJo. It seems fair to the head of media at my college. But it doesn't seem fair to one of my many tutors. She says I *have* to be in until 4pm every day I'm supposed to be. I have to stay until 4, then be late for work without having any dinner (we have a pitiful canteen where they serve chocolate and skanky microwave burgers, so I can't eat at college) which would result in me being fired after a few weeks. Does that sound fair? Nein.

Today - I did some work for my final project in the morning. It was Key Skills in the afternoon. I stayed in, did the work they asked of me, and tried to leave at 2pm. I even said "Can I go now?" and one of the key skills people said "Yes." So as I leave, my evil tutor sees me.

"They're not your tutor, *I* am."

"But I've GOT to go to work. I explained it to you and Clive!" (the head of media)

"You said you'd be in every day!" (I'd been off for weeks due to sleeping in because of work, but I've sorted it and I'm in every day now)

"And I am."

"No you're not, because you're leaving early!"

"Yes, to go to work."

"That's not allowed."

"I've done the work I had to do today."

"Then do your final project work."

"I can't, it's at home."

"Do it here."

"I can't. I can do it at home as I eat my dinner before I go to work."

"You've got to do it here."

"That's not what Clive said" (or, in reality, what anyone has EVER said the whole two years I've been going there)

"You're wrong."

And back and forth it went, with me arguing that I had to leave, and I could do the work at home, with her saying I couldn't. Then it went on to how I signed up for a full time course. Fair enough, but now I work, so I have to leave 1 and a half hours early three days a week. That's it. What am I missing in that time? Sweet FA. Even she admits that. But I *have* to stay so I can do the work with her "supervision" - yes. Supervision... when she doesn't even stay in the same room as us. Crap. Utter crap.

I wanted to shout in her face that she was an annoying bint that has no life. That it was unfair that others can leave early/take days off for work and I can't. I wanted to tell her to **** off and that I was never coming back.

Course ends in June. That's two freaking months. That's all. 8 weeks. After almost two years - suddenly I have to be in until 4. I had the same job this time last year for two months, nobody EVER complained about me leaving at 2pm. Suddenly, right at the end of the course, one person makes a big deal out of it. I can't believe how petty and annoying she's being.

Now MoJo has finished his pasta and tuna, and is about to finish getting ready for work. MoJo had to vent his anger here. For the first time EVER, even my parents are on my side. I'm an adult with a life, they seem to be forgetting that at college. She's hassling me more now than when I took about 8 weeks off after New Year's Eve. So I get more hassle the more I go in... Pft. Apparantly the powers that be are suddenly really strict over attendance and punctionality. I'm in every morning, I can stay until 2pm every afternoon. What's wrong with that?

Like I said, I get less hassle if I don't show up at all than I do when I come in, do the work/sit through the lecture then try to leave.

it's your life, you should be able to do as you please.

as long as you pass your coursework and exams, they shouldn't have anything to whinge about

I don't pay for the course, since I was under 19 when I joined, but I was an adult when I signed up and I'm still an adult now. I actually prefer WORK to college - less hassle.

Anyway, just got in about 20 minutes ago, my mum tells me Stuart (Clive's boss, the head of art and design at Newcastle college) has phoned (he does that from time to time) Yeah, that's smart. Phone me to complain about me working when I'm AT work. Think he said he'd call back after half 9... it's almost ten to ten, no call yet. Whether or not I talk to him tonight doesn't bother me, as I'll still be talking to Clive tomorrow to get him to shut that **** up.

As I said, even my parents are on my side, which is the first time... ever. If I were 17 and my parents called up and said "He has to leave early" there'd be no problem. I'm an adult, why can't I tell them "I have to leave early"?

they treat you like a baby at college. I assumed that they'd give you the respect a young adult deserves, but no.

I remember it being exactly like school, only you could smoke without getting bollocked.

At Uni it's much better, apart from the crippling debt.

That's a load of rubbish, if you do the work then you can go home, plus you are in optional education which means you can come and go as you please as long as you've paid for the course and aren't on some scolarship funded by the college or uni.

Tell the stupid bi**h that she's not running a nursery and she's not going to stop you going home, and if she threatens to take you off the course tell her you'll go above her head and get her fired.

At sixth form college we're meant to spend full days in the building, 9 until 2:50 every day. However my teachers randomly tell us they'll not be showing up to lessons. So, we are meant to mope about school doing work we haven't been taught yet. I feel I am more productive going home and working on an essay (which I have done this afternoon) but the authorities reckon I am much more efficient in the school library manned by a fat ex-sailor and a year 8 pupil who skips his lessons to be a vigilante and tell everyone to "hush".

The system is bo**ocks, utter bo**ocks, but you've got to keep working to the bitter end because in the long run its worth it
