AOL sued this bloke and are auctioning off his porche, after he made over $1m from spam mail! How! Not that I want to, it's great that the companies are trying to wipe it out, but does that mean that he made all this money by people replying to his spam? I can't fathom how or why that would work?

Im assuming he was advertising a product.
Mass mailing is an effective way to generate revenue because it is so damn cheap, you can reach millions of people and also because even if 1% of people respond to the ad you could be looking at 10,000 customers.
