Here's an idea. Why not just try sort it out with the school first eh?
You may be able to sue, but it'll cost if you lose and you'd have to establish direct blame or incompetence on the part of the teacher, probably.

On another note
I remember my friend handed in an essay and the teacher lost it. So he said he'd bring in another copy the next day. He did and the teacher took marks off for it being late.

True, but his parents are going to say no to suing a teacher for losing some course work. They'll just not count it as part of his final marks, or give him full marks for it.

well, it's IT coursework, the part where I have to sketch my whole database. Took me the best part of a days work, and the deadline is tomorrow. the rest can just be reprinted, but I simply do not have the time to re-do it.
