I think that some silent movies havr potential. Silence can be a scary thing. When your alone in the dark, no noise, you can be scared stiff.
Now think what a silent horror film would be like! WOW!
Take the German film 'Nosferatu'. It was made in 1921 amd is a classic horror. It's main character is the cinemas favourite monster, the Vampire. It is so ugly and not at all human! It has to be one of the most influential horror classics of all time.
Now you wouldn't want to be in a silent room with this Vampire. Come to think about it, you wouldn't even want to be in the room with a German! No offence!
