Hi.
I'm thinking of buying a nice, large hard drive purely for copying music to. This is a family PC, so I want to be able to take all my stuff away with me when I go and not clog up the other hard drive. Is that Seagate 120Gb that SR do for £60 any good? It's probably just about big enough, and I can afford it. Cheers.

I prefer Maxtor hard drives, but the Seagate comes highly recommended. The ST3120022A is a bit quicker than the ST3120023A though (both 120 Gb), but this is likely to be a pretty much irrelevant point unless you do video editing or whatever.

It is a decent price, cheaper than Ebuyer which says something. And of course free postage, which saves you another £5.

I have a Seagate hard drive, it makes a squelchy sound whenever accessing something. That'll be the liquid bearings then

I have an 80gb seagate drive and it works fine, I'd heartily reccomend them to you, especially at such a low price.

I personally like Weston Digital drives, as they are generally faster. But, if you are just going to use it for MP3s it makes little difference.

Another vote for the Maxtor here, because it's quiet and fast. Personally I've never had a Maxtor give me so much as a hiccup, but you'll hear someone's had "major problems" with every harddrive manufacturer.

Just don't buy an IBM.

Two of the truest bits of advice there are about hard disks.
