The monkey statue of king Rochotiki stood on top of the table inside a storage room, a beam of light from the ceiling window gave the whole statue a magical feel to it and the room a secret tomb feeling. It was ironic, as this statue was magical in more than one way. Because unlike the real monkey statue, this one was made from lies, deceit, plaster of Paris, and 2 bits of diamond. The statue had been replicated with fine detail and had even given the statue an ancient feel, but contained a heart of fire that would consume those it didn’t like. That was the magical part of it. “Pedro” was satisfied that it would convince the trader that it was real and he slicked his gelled hair back, only to see the corpse of the strangled shop owner/ artefact smuggler slump forward in his chair next to the table. The force of the corpse falling onto the table rocked the table where the statue was. Pedro quickly stabilised the table before the monkey statue fallen and would have gotten angry with him and killed him in the process. No, that angst was for someone else you see.

Pedro shifted the fat body of the trader by the collar with his feet dragging all the way to the other side of the room. The fool looked so quiet in his sleep like state and Pedro merely rolled him down the stairs and the corpse’s face smashed headfirst into the barrel down the stairs, not that it mattered to him now....

Satisfied he closed the door to the cellar. Pedro stood up and strolled for the door leading to the front of the store. He sat down on a chair and had his legs crossed and calmly lit a cigar and waited. He pulled back the white blazer of his suit (complete with matching white tie and trousers and blue shirt), there was ten minutes left till the target would arrive. Good, he had time to compose himself and calm his nerves before his trader would arrive.

The front part of the store had windows with blinds on them and the shop wasn't particulary well lit. In the centre of the room was only 2 chairs and a table. Surrounding the room was shelves with priceless/ worthless artifacts for fools to sell. This guy was either conning inncocent people or the dangerous people. Maybe both, a dangerous life if he did.

Pedro wasn’t his real name, but it was his assigned name for this job. The target had dealt business with the shopkeeper, who in no coincidence was also called Pedro. But the good part was Pedro never met each other person to person. Until now that is. So he wouldn’t know that the real pedro is with god and his body is face first into a barrel of some sort He heard a car screech to a halt outside the door.

Show time.

He went round the back to retrieve the glorious statue and placed it underneath his chair and returned to his normal position. The target walked in, it was the don of the local Mafia. His bodyguards were emotionless, wore black suits and black ties with pistols concealed in their coats. This had seriously complicated matters. If they turned their guns on him, the odds of him being able to survive were close to zero. Sure he had a gun and could use it, but with 2 guards watching and a further 2 outside he would have a large dose of lead for lunch. He would have to pull off the deal properly or be riddled with bullets afterwards. With that in mind, Pedro stood up.

“My friend it’s an honour to see you in the flesh”
“Can it” barked the fat don leader wearing the latest suits from some Italian company
“Very well, sit down my friend. Cigar?” offered Pedro
“No thank you, I’m in a hurry” He took off his coat and handed it to his bodyguard.
“Where is the statue?”
“Right here” Pedro lifted the statue and gave it to him.

The don studied carefully the statue. Pedro kept a calm face whiles inside his organs began to twist and turned from the tension. Had the increased investment in making the statue realistic paid off?

The don looked up. “Very good, here’s the cash” another bodyguard welding a shotgun and a brief case walked in and placed the money in front of Pedro, who wasn’t convinced that it was safe. He lifted the cash and pulled one of the notes out of one of the packs and looked carefully. Than began to check the brief case for any hidden bombs. There were none, he closed the case and placed it to one side and smiled. The don stared long and hard at Pedro and began to speak.

“What’s so special about THIS monkey?”
“Its no ordinary monkey, it has been believed to wipe civilisations and kings all at once. But no one knows how to obtain its power”
“Rubbish, it’s just made of stone with 2 precious rocks in it”
“As you insist. But I should warn you, its heart is of pure anger and any mistreatment would make it strike again...”
“Can it, where did you find it?”

Pedro slowly became agitated why this transaction took so long, look, take the goddamn fake statue with a bomb inside it away now okay? Pedro continued to talk for a further 10 minutes answering the entire question given as well as possible. Finally the don left finally convinced and his emotionless guards stared at him till their don began walking and got back into the car. Pedro continued to hold a straight face. He had done it. He’s target was good as dead.

Putting out his cigar Pedro stood and straightened his clothes and pulled out the remote for the bomb and detonated it. The statue detonated and released its fiery contents of its heart ripping through the car and the occupants to pieces in a ball of fire that shot up above the buildings outside. A dust cloud soon began to develop into a fog like state and screams could be heard. The windows of the store shook along with the statues on the shelves. The explosion was fed with the fuel from the car and any flammable material. The fire had to be burning very intensely, There had to be no way he could have survived it. Even if the Mafia boss had survived the bomb in the statue, he couldn’t survive a plastic explosive charge underneath the car that his inside man had planted. Pedro smiled and took the brief case and walked out of the store checked that no one was there and left the store with a smile. He had a lot to look forward to now, a new life, a new car, return to his wife and most importantly, the most priceless part of him: his life and the chance to fight another day.

the key idea was that it started off already half way through the incident, we are not to know the situation fully until you progress through the story (but knowing the criticism, i've failed. still, practice makes perfect).

I agree with pb. After reading it you didn't know what it was you read. It was like reading a story with an ending but no beginnning.

Well, it's different. I'll give you that. I felt slightly lost at some points though, perhaps not enough information behind the motives of 'pedro'.

Still, an interesting story.

oh by the way comments welcome. Bare in mind this was done early in the morning.

Next story i was thinking was the iron chef cook offs (watch it on challegene and you might have an idea of how bad it is). This time Monkey penis battle!

A challenger has brought him him his own monkey penis, only to discover it came from a magical moneky and once cooked in the infamous "thousand cooks wok" all hell will break loose and only another ingreident mixed with another object can save the world from total distruction.
