Once i've plucked up enough courage to continue building my PC. I'll need an OS for it. My mum has a version of Xp which on the disc says "for Dell home PCs only". Is this actually for Dell PCs or is it just misleading so nobody tries to use it on their PC?

But why the heck would anyone buy 98 anyway? And for more than Xp eludes me completely.

The Dell Licence will work fine but it is still against the microsoft copyright thingys but what they don't know won't hurt them, I am sure that Dells come with a disk that is just a rebadged OEM and not a recovery disk.

That's only for updates and such isn't it? If so then i don't mind getting an illegal patch. But i may just get a legal version just because it's legal :D

It should work, but the serial number cannot be used twice, and so you will need a new one. Whether you get it leagaly (buying another copy http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/ £61.04) or get an illegal keygen I leave up to you (for peice of mind I would get a legal copy).
