A) Original
B) Not a rip-off of all the other pads put together
C) Emphasis on the second!
It looks just like the Gamecube pad in terms of positioning....the Dreamcast Pad in terms of Look, and the PS2 pad in terms of....uh....?
To be honest, after weeks of deliberation, I can't think of one 'Pro' for the pad, it is too big, to crowded, and with badly coloured and positioned buttons....I think the buttons should light up though....when you press them!!!
The New Jap-Friendly on is terrible, the Star and Select/mode buttons are in a VERY awkward position....right by the base of your LH index finger.
I would rather look for layout rather than size, and lets talk about size!!! Apart from the console itself being VERY big the pad is just as bad, the bottom of the Jap pad archs over rather than curving round like the US one, the X-Box logo is a bit smaller but all in all it isn't a massive improovement...
Never have I seen an unofficial pad beat the official one in a ratings war...but with this new monstrosaty (Spelling?) I think we could see a first...
I don't know if it has USB connections for the pads if it does hopefully we could stick a sidewinder pro or something in it but as for the original...Pah!!!
The X-Box is as big as video-recorder, it will be about £450, trust me, with the GF3 and all the bits it will, regardless of how much Microsoft are prepared to lose it will be about that much, and I don't think they realise that you could get a now £1299 PC for just over that much by the time the X-Box is released.
Nintendo have got it right, they are bringing out a games console, all these mixtures are silly, DVD that MS Word this, Games Games Games is what we want they are what we do, we have PC's for work.
I don't care how long MS THINK they can screw up for but I am telling you, apart from a few Sega games we are looking at a suped up Phillips CD-i 2!

*shudders*
YES! MICORSOFT ARE DOING THIS! They are releasing the Xbox in Japan with a different, smaller pad. It's for the japanese people's small hands! Hopefully they'll bring it over here as an option for a second pad too!

Fact is, everything stems from somewhere. With the Xbox pad, they had the choice of taking elements that have worked in the past, or making something revolutionary. They did the "safe" thing. So did Nintendo- the GC pad is nothing new! Just loads of old ideas in one (analogue pads, digital pads) etc. That's all!
SonicRav
They do it.
Sorry. Too tired to explain.
Think I'll go sleep.
Does anyone here have any problems with the current rop of pads, as far as this is concerned?
The controller resembles a DC controller more than anything else, except they've widened the angle of the grips to prevent strain on the wrists that you get from driving games from time to time.
They've also set a standard by using the 'Back' button on the controller for the first time. Like on a web browser, the Back button takes you back through menus in a gamescreen, instead of the traditional B button on most other controllers.
It has two analogue sticks which also act as digital buttons when pressed, adding further functionality to the controller, and like the PS2, all the buttons are pressure sensitive, allowing for a greater degree of control, and it's the ONLY controller that matches the traditional setup of a six-button arcade game. ('Designed by gamers, for gamers'.)
So of course it looks the same as other controllers, trying to make something completely different would be like trying to reinvent the wheel.
As for price, rumours abound, and only one thing is sure, it will retail for between $300 and $500 when it is launched around October 2001 in the US.
This equates to £300-£500 over in the UK (using the normal dollar/pound parity rate of exchange that historically has been the norm in the gaming industry). However, Bill Gates has stated that the X-Box will be 'competitively priced'. The PS2 may still be £299 around that time, so we can expect the £300 price to be more accurate than the £500 price.
I have a feeling it could do what the PSX did 6 years ago, and take the gaming world by storm.
Pah!!!
I don't think so, even Sony have more of a passion for Gaming than Microsoft. Miyamoto wants to improve games and keep gameplay at the best it can be, Sony are half and half, Microsoft just (blindly) see it as another opportuniy to monopolise a market, but
A AH
Nintendo will win, their all games and 100% fun apporach will see them get the glory, wait till E3 my friend, you will be amazed!

Microsoft, DONT.....GOT....A....CLUE!

How do you know it will be £450???
By the time the X-Box is released, you porbably wont be able to buy a PC with specs as low as the X-Box ones. If you can, it will probably be about £450, 'cos thats how much mine PC was when i got it 18months ago.
Dont write off the X-Box, i have a feeling ti could do what the PSX did 7(?) years ago, and take the gaming world by storm.
