With the PS2 launch drawing nearer and the with the Dreamcast already on our shelves, will it be too late for Nintendo?

UK gamers will probably have to wait until Christmas 2001 for Nintendo's next-generation console, so what can Nintendo do to win us over?

Fair play to Nintendo, they've stuck to their guns and have refused to be rushed into launching the new console as they did with the Nintendo 64. But, as we all know, this didn't pay off! The obvious attribute that didn't help the company was it's 'kiddie image', but, the company's learned that the market isn't like it was 8 years ago with the Super NES, where your parents used to buy your games for you. And in turn, albeit late, Nintendo have started to release more games aimed at the mature audience.

As Rav stated elsewhere in the forum, Nintendo do lack quality titles in other areas. Beat-em-up's for example; the N64 doesn't have a great beat-em-up, like Soul Calibur or Tekken Tag for example. Nintendo MUST rectify this for the Dolphin or it will be over before it's even begun. Sure, the Dolphin will have some great titles in the form of Mario, Zelda, Metriod, Perfect Dark 2 etc. But we all knew that anyway.

When we eventually see the Nintendo Dolphin, will it follow the same fate as its predecessor? Keep in mind however, that the Playstation 2 will be a year into it's release and the Dreamcast will be two years gone, with a larger catalogue and undoubtedly at a cheaper price too.

Time will tell

I don't think that nintendo will be to late either, and I also think that it will be the most successful of the next gen consoles because I seen a rainbow six style game for it that is being developed by Redstorm, and the game graphic's where outstanding. It should do better than all the other consoles because the PS2 has no good release title's and games are supposed to be really hard to make for it according to people like Hideo Kojima the maker of the metal gear solid games. The X-Box will fail because none of the big game developers from Japan are going to make games for it because it is made by Microsoft. But the dream cast should do rather well because the only thing I can see wrong with it is that it is a bit blurry but is supposed to be like this so it is not block like the PS2,and on the plus side for sega the games are supposed to be realy easy to make for the DC.
The dolphin sould succeed with new versions of games like mario, perfect dark, james bond and Zelda and so on.

I think the Dolphin has more of a chance than people will think. The reason is quite strange though...

When the dolphin releases it will be at the same time as the Xbox. There will be hardcore gamers who will buy the console, and those gamers who have waited for it. But that's not enough for the console to survive...

The big question is whether the Dreamcast will be dated. For DC owners, the Dolphin will b like a next-gen console, and if the launch games are as good as they could be then it would certainly appear that way.

That's not to say the DC is rubbish, it's just that 2 years down the line the PS2 will look loads better than the DC (MGS2 and other great games will be out), and the Dolphin will look absolutly brilliant. Anyway, that's just my opinion... how about your opinions?

If they are years into there lives surely when dolphin comes out it will have had a time advantage and will produce less games but of far higher quality as it did with the N64 when it finally arrives.
