What is the point?
If we like a movie that much, we will buy whatever version of the movie comes out. it seems more than ever now that DVD is on the scene that movie makers will put out different version of their film. Some movies are cut so they can be put out at the cinema at a lesser rating, so say a film (Like The Mummy) when it was released, it was released as a 12 with bits cut out, it`s out on DVD as a 15 with the bits included, why did they not just release it as a 15 in the first place?? because they get a wider audience and of course that means more money.......and thats why there seems to be so many more versions now than ever, to make more money for that movie makers.
There is also the DVD region issue, with alot of Region 1 DVD`s have more on them. I can understand there being more extra`s on the disc because of tv companies and so forth who have made tv documentries on how the film was made and they don`t have the filming right`s in other countries, but it makes me fed-up when the actual movie is cut, scenes are taken out for Region 2 DVD`s but left in on Region 1`s, thats just down right wrong and unfair. (The Matrix is a example i think, which i heard about on this board)
The cure is to ge a mutli-region DVD player or with many Region2 only players they are remote hackable or you can get a custom chip put in so you can view all regions. Then you can pay the extra and get that DVD with some more seconds of the film incuded, but we come back to that old `money` word again because you bet your bottom dollar that given awhile a special edition or whatever edition is released with those extra scenes, and us gullable lot will buy it!
DVD`s and Movie`s a case of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.
The Good is the great film you see and enjoy at the cinema or on your lovely DVD.
The Bad is that the movie makers are out to make one thing, money, and they have to make a great film that will get them their money by being succesful.
The Ugly is the fact that we are exploited, it`s plain and simple, we buy DVD`s and watch movies because we enjoy them, and different version of that movie will come out becasue the movie maker`s, think that if they put some more cheese out for the mice (being us) we will take it!
And i will, give me a movie or genre i like and have several different versions, and yep i will ne daft enough to buy it!

It's because there are plenty of morons in the world who will happily waste there money on different version of the same thing which are only fractionally different. This works better on films which have already proved popular, rather than relative failures trying to make more money.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Disney are the only ones to get it right. They release their new films in 2 versions, one with the film and a selection of extras and a 2-disc version with tons of bonus stuff on the additional disc for the more serious/interested fans out there.
