The earlier games (1996 and back) where good at time but the main break through came in Fifa 1997, it became a proper 3D game but thats all it really was. The movement of players was poor, they could hardly move in diagnols. As for the detail in players well it was very poor. The feet looked like triangles, the heads rectangles and no facial expression, also the detail in the team players information was quite well.
In 1998 there was Fifa 98 and World Cup 98 (same game really) this was quite an improvement. The detail in the players, stadium and pitch was increased and a variety of stadiums and also movement of player was better. Although unlike its predecesor the player information was pathetic.
In 1999 it was probably the poorest year to date, the game was just a carbon copy of fifa 98 with some up to date strips and players and even then the players were not well up to date.
2000, I cannot commend much on since I did not own it or seen a decent review but what I heard it was a bit better than 98 with quality of graphics.
This year 2001! I would say is a very good updated version of the game. The main difference is the gameplay, the varitey of moves is much more than before, and it is much more relistic kind of shooting. You need to aim more rather than press one buttom with as little skill as possible. Also detail of pitch and weather is very good and touch line security running up and down BUT the growd is very poor, they don't look like a football crowd and after every 10 people it is the same person copied.
So every year since 97 I would say the game has progresed slighty every time but is this going to be enough to keep the gamer buying a new game at a high price just to get nearly a copy of the one the following year? the answer no! the gamer will eventually get fed up (myself) unless there is sopmething brand new and exciting in the game.
Some suggestions of myself to improve the game would be..... to make the information on the players and team a lot better! In Fifa 2001 my team 'Aberdeen' have a top striker down as a goal keeper, I find this unacceptable and also the Scotland team is pathetic it has players in first team that do not exist, I believe this needs to be fixed.
Also maybe the different modes of games as well, you have ifferent camera modes, but what if you could play as one player and the rest of the team do more work than usual and you don't control them all. You could also just go the goalkeeper and nobody else I would find that quite cool.
In general improve gameplay so there are more different changes in what happens when you shoot there or when you pass there and so it is not repeated all the time because in a real game of football it does not happen.
Overall the game needs a face life, better graphics, new features and more respect for the gamer and maybe then the FIFA games maybe 100% complete and be the ultimate game.
