UEFA appeal Keane ban verdict

UEFA have lodged an appeal against their own control and disciplinary body over the one-match ban given to Manchester United captain Roy Keane following his red card against Porto last month.

Keane was given his marching orders late on as United went down 2-1 to the UEFA Cup holders in their Champions League second round, first leg clash.

The midfielder was found guilty of improper conduct after stamping on Porto goalkeeper Vitor Baia as he jumped over him, earning himself the suspension.

However, under article 50 of the UEFA disciplinary regulations, UEFA have the power of appeal against verdicts taken by their disciplinary authorities and are asking for Keane's challenge to be considered as assault, which would mean a ban of at least three matches.

Keane is ruled out of tonight's return leg against Jose Mourinho's men but the extended suspension could also rule him out of the quarter-finals and beyond, should the Old Trafford side overturn the deficit.

The appeal hearing is likely to take place on the afternoon of March 19.

Blatter obviously trying to get some revenge for the way United treated him as he should be treated during the whole Rio thing. With contempt and hatred with a bit of ignoring thrown in.

Well, you can't spell UEFA without FA! =D

Is it a competition between the two to see who can be the most incompetant?
