Man Utd to boost capacity
United could expand even further
Manchester United are considering expanding Old Trafford by a further 7,500 seats to a 75,000-capacity.
A statement from the club said other facilities at the Premiership's biggest stadium might also be upgraded.
"A feasibility study is underway to evaluate the technical, financial and planning issues on completing the north-east and north-west quadrants.
"Any decision to proceed will be taken by the board in due course and announced thereafter."
Officials have previously resisted demands to increase the capacity, believing the club's current 67,500 stadium large enough for their needs.
The fear at United has been not filling the stadium for every game and ending up in the same embarrassing situation as some of their continental rivals by having a huge ground which is barely half full.
But every Premiership match at Old Trafford has been a sell-out since the last redevelopment was completed four years ago, giving rise to this latest announcement.
No time limit has been put on the study but the extra 7,500 seats could generate in excess of £4m over the course of a full season.
That cash could be vital at a time when Arsenal have confirmed their plans to relocate to Ashburton Grove, where the capacity is likely to be about 60,000.
Old Trafford's record crowd is 87,000, which was recorded during the 1930s. Due to various safety campaigns it dropped to 55,000 max over the years, and now United are only upgrading due to the fact that they now have massive support and money to burn.
Which is why Leeds will be top of that table next year
:D

Better then languising in Division 1 eh Tribute?
What really makes me laugh, though is Arsénal's up-and-coming Ashburton Grove project. Of course, they need something bigger than Highbury, in order to compete with the very-best (..."ahem!"). For that reason, it doesn't matter how much it's gonna cost them. But, for the time it is likely to take before it's completed, and the way in which many things Football may well have changed by then, is a 60,000-seater really worth it?
I mean [providing I am correct in the figures - sorry, if I'm not], by then, Old Trafford could well be on its way to the 100,000-mark, while rival grounds like the new Anfield, St. James' Park and even the City of Manchester Stadium are (probably) flying past that mark, and onto something that resembles the Bernebeau, San Siro or even the Nou Camp.
I think they should've applied for an extra 15,000 at least.
Then again, what do I know? What do we really know about it all?
Perhaps they did apply for something bigger, but, it just wasn't feesable. Maybe they couldn't prove they'd have the extra money. Perhaps the council just said 'No'.
Surely, it cannot be Arsénal simply not thinking straight...?

Hmmm, hard question. How about this: Because they won't be?
United may have had a bad season, but they often come back ever stronger after a relatively poor season: The last time they came third, a championship came the next season.
:¬D
Old Trafford is massive though, and it looks far larger after a game when all the spectators have left.

I know, but still.
