I just bought a CD on evil major label EMI that has 'copy control'. I want to rip the CD so that I can listen to mp3s on my player - not unreasonable considering I just bought the music. But I can't. Easy CD-DA Extractor just rips the first few minutes of the CD for each and every track. Does anyone know a way around this?

I read somewhere that I should copy the CD in Nero using the 'ignore illegal TOC' option - but I can't see this option. Anyone know where it is? In any case I'd rather not have to make a copy of a CD I've legitimately bought. Grrr.

I do. It's a bit broken at the moment and Linux has never been a huge fan of my CD drive but will give it a go. I'm doing some Open University Windows-only stuff at the moment so I didn't want to reboot and start faffing about with config files. A project for my next hangover I think.

You got Linux still, UK?

"Grip" is your answer if you want to rip CD's.

Agreed.

Alcohol 120% is the business.
Been using it for sometime now - very detailed with its setting and so on.

What about iTunes?

As it actually plays them there is no way they can stop it...

Cheers, Tyla, that worked a treat. Just mounted it as a virtual device and it ripped with no problems.

http://www.alcohol-software.com/download.php if anyone else needs it.

Not sure about Poweramp, I don't have it installed at the mo. But Easy CD-DA Extractor has also been able to handle other copy protected CDs in the past and failed miserably with this one.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Won't dbPowerAmp work? That's managed to rip every CD I've given it, it also fills in all the ID3 stuff for you if you're connected to the net.

Try it.

I've had this problem as well, have to checkout this Alcohol thing - though I just want the MP3's on my PC to save getting the CD's out.

I always heard that if you use a green felt-tip pen and draw a line around the edge of the CD, this problem is solved.

The only real way around this is Alcohol 120%.
