A friend has offered me his (original) copy of Adobe Photoshop 7 but it is unboxed and he doesn't have the serial number for it anymore :( Before I take it of his hands though, I was wondering if I can get a new serial number for it? Can I buy one from Adobe or will it work without one?
I think Photoshop CS (8) is the latest one. I have version 6, I guess I'll shell out the extra 150 pounds to upgrade. Anything below version 6 you cant upgrade so I better get 8 before they release another version. They seem to release them quite often. Paint Shop Pro and Painter are on version 8 at the moment as well. I don't have Painter yet, it's only 200 so I'll be getting it soon.

If he's geniunely lost the serial number than I'm sure if you get in contact with Adobe they will organise a new one, providing you can provide proof of purchase.
Yes, a genuine new version is around that much. You could probably find cheaper on eBay, and if you're a student the cost is "only" £200 or something like that.
