Does anyone know about the legality of selling tickets on Ebay?

I know that in the case of football games, teams have intervened to stop auctions when the price gets above face value, and have seen many auctions for hibs cis cup final tickets stopped today. However, I have never seen the SRU intervene when there are auctions for rugby tickets, or the SFA for scotland football matches.

I'd put this in the sport section but I'm more concerned as to the legality than the sports side of it.

(i'm not planning on, nor ever have, sold tickets on ebay, i'm just curious)

It's been done loads of times with gigs, events anything really. As long as it's legal it's OK, and if rare and in demand it can fetch a lot of money.

The only legal issue would be the tickets individual terms and conditions; which will almost certainly say you can't sell or buy the ticket for above the face value. There is no blanket rule that says "you can;t sell tickets", because... well... why would there be? You can take advantage of the rising value of any of your other posessions by selling them.

But as ever, odds are you could sell tickets above face value on eBay - loads of people (not me I'd add) sell all sorts of items not allowed on eBay and get away with it for ages and ages.
