He has been given the chance to be United's assistant, well at least until the end of the season.
I don't really know what to make of this, I guess only time will tell...
Perhpas, now, he'll be able to focus a little better on that nine-point gap, the Fulham in the FA Cup on Saturday, Porto at home in the Champions' League next-week, and some kind of "solution" to our problems that will get us through all of this.... Maybe...
I don't think it really matters who it is, so long as it helps Sir Alex to focus, at a time when we need him to mostly. And, anyway, if you don't like it, he could be gone in the summer!
He wasn't Rangers manager for nothing, mind you...
Alex Ferguson, Andy Goram and now Walter Smith...
What are we; "Rangers Re-United"?!?
As for Neo's comment- I certainly hope he is very defensively minded. United's defence has really become a liability and a weak link recently.
It's strange cause today I was reading Andy Gray's column on United and he said United's primary problem was not losing Rio or lack of confidence - it was because Fergie needed a reliable assistant to help him out.
A magical few hours later, United announce Walter Smith as new No 2.
I seem to remember him and fergie being good mates, and hopefully he will put fergie straight on some certain issues like leaving your best players out...
