He has been given the chance to be United's assistant, well at least until the end of the season.

I don't really know what to make of this, I guess only time will tell...

At least this situation is now sorted. With all Fergie's had to put-up with for the past couple of months, at least he no longer has to worry about `who'll´ be doing `what´ with the second-string.

Perhpas, now, he'll be able to focus a little better on that nine-point gap, the Fulham in the FA Cup on Saturday, Porto at home in the Champions' League next-week, and some kind of "solution" to our problems that will get us through all of this.... Maybe...

I don't think it really matters who it is, so long as it helps Sir Alex to focus, at a time when we need him to mostly. And, anyway, if you don't like it, he could be gone in the summer!

He wasn't Rangers manager for nothing, mind you...

Alex Ferguson, Andy Goram and now Walter Smith...
What are we; "Rangers Re-United"?!?

I think that Walter Smith could well help United's situation- he has a good football brain, which is always good in a coach. Plus, he is incredibly experienced.

As for Neo's comment- I certainly hope he is very defensively minded. United's defence has really become a liability and a weak link recently.

I clearly remember him being a strong defensive minded coach which is hopefully good news for our current defensive mishaps.

It's strange cause today I was reading Andy Gray's column on United and he said United's primary problem was not losing Rio or lack of confidence - it was because Fergie needed a reliable assistant to help him out.

A magical few hours later, United announce Walter Smith as new No 2.

Good maybe he can give Fergie a good slapping and remind him strikers do not go on the right wing and when you're behind in the title race you play your strongest possible side.

Well, anyone is better than no one. And it cant really get any worse than what it is at the moment.

I seem to remember him and fergie being good mates, and hopefully he will put fergie straight on some certain issues like leaving your best players out...
