The dreamcast - a brilliant new concept in the future of gaming. So what went wrong?

I think it was too much too soon. It went in full throttle, only it advertised 'up to 60 million players' when there were'nt any online games and well, there were'nt any decent games at all. Looking at the current dreamcast software, one wonders why everyone doesnt have one. I put it down to marketing and adversing. the playstation brand is a very cool one and the chances are any 15-25 year old male with a tv and a sense of fun has either a playstation or playstation 2. Who was dreamcast aimed at? Nintendo are for the kids, playstation for the more sophicated among us. But dreamcast...?

Yes its a shame but the future is now alot brighter for sega. They have cut their losses. No more console sob stories - just games! the things they make best!

Who can argue of segas best time - the time of sonic, knuckles and echo the dolphin a time when sega was cool. Well sega can now sit back and take peace in the knowledge that they can make games and only the best games.

Crazy Taxi - out on ps2 april 27th! the first of many. You can expect sonic and virtua fighter on that little black box aswell...

Sega are headed for a boom in business.

It's quite likely VF4 won't be a PS2 only, and even more likely that Panzeer won't be X-Box only.

Er - hello? Sega are already producing games for PS2. Some are being converted by acclaim, others are being done by Sega directly. Virtua Fighter 4 is a PS2 exclusive. Keep up, YH!

True, but then Im not a huge lover of sequels to be honest with you.

Especially on consoles because the specs havent increased, so the developers seem to be saying "oh, we didnt quite get it right the first time lads, so we're going to have another go". Which seems out of order to me.

MGS2 and the like are obviously a different story because they are being developed for a different system and so the extra power will enable a more realistic engine than the first game, making the whole experience that much better.

It will be 18 months old. It was a launch tiutle in Japan, and the DC has been out around 18 months, if not more.

Crazy Taxi 2 won't be 18 months old.

And anyway, I don't care that much about Sega games, more about all the other games coming out.

I wouldnt get your hopes up about Sonic if i were you mate. Sega has just signed a deal with Microsoft, and something big will be announced from Nintendo at E3. Im not quite sure where this leaves Sony to be honest. But hey, if you're happy getting 18 month old DC titles on a machine you've paid £300 for, dont worry about it.
