After being taken ill, and avoiding school, I had a lot of time on my hands. So I decided, having b2 at the time, to install some more bloggers, simply to see which I liked best.

Previously, I've used GreyMatter, (which I hated, can't remember why), b2, b2evolution, and MovableType. I installed all but GreyMatter, because it just annoys the hell out of me.

b2. Easy. Like, really easy to install. Simply changing the MySql databases and config. Templates are easy too. Simple boxes, like MT, and very simple code, which is excelent for first time bloggers.

b2evolution. Harder than b2, but still pretty easy to install. It does have the occasional problem, but for me it was pretty much plain sailing. Templates are very strange, having decided to but them inside their own subfolder, b2evo/blogs/admin/skins and even then it's not simple, having different ones and needing quite a large range of php at your disposal, or knowledge of b2, as it is really just an expansion of b2.

Movable Type. This is by far the hardest to install, mainly due to the fact it uses both MySql and cgi-bins. However, after an hour and a half of fidly coding, it worked too. Worst thing with the install was the default username and password, "Melody" and "Nelson". Looks simple. But the fact is, for some reason, they have a caps detect on the password and username, which also annoyed the hell out of me.

Templates on MT are reasonably easy, probably easier than b2evo even, but still have some problems, especially with the tag, which poses lots of problems if you're trying to determine an attribute for the skin or the posts.

Anyhoo. Just thought I'd mention it, as I'd looked for quite a while for some information on which blogging tool was the best, and why. And, just for simplicity, I'm going to rate them.

3 Categories, ease of use, looks, and options. They cover all aspects - ie. ease of use includes install, looks includes the way they present they're default templates and config files, while options is how well they respond one installed and set up, for example what can be done with the layout, or the posts, including exerts, long posts, etc.

b2 - Ease of use : 10/10, Looks : 7/10 , Options : 4/10. Easy to use, and looks fine. Doesn't have much you can do with it, without any really innovative ideas. A reliable blogging tool.
Overall: 7/10

b2evo - Ease of use : 6/10, Looks : 7/10 , Options : 7/10. Would be a lot better if the skins were executed better. A pity, because it was a clever idea. A decent tool, a good step up from b2.
Overall: 7/10

Movable Type - Ease of use : 7/10, Looks : 9/10, Options : 9/10. You might be surprised by 7/10 ease of use, but, apart from the install, everything is very easily modified. The top blogger, has everything.
Overall: 9/10

Actually, the reason why I posted this, was that if any of you needed MT or b2 or b2evo installed, I'm offering. Simply because when I started my own page, breaking away from Geocities and StormPages, I would have loved someone to install a blogger for me.
