Had a couple of little "incidents" lately that caught me off-guard. Just little, mundane, everyday things that went slightly skewiff and lost any sense of protocol. The first was the other day when I went for a shave. I picked up the razor and the head was already off, but it stopped me in my tracks for a second, like one of those moments of clarity, but it was a moment of stupidity. It was like I was unsure what to do next - my brain says to remove the head, but there wasn't one on the razor. That's all it took to make me stop and think for a second.

The other happened today, and it had an extra human element. I was about to open the door to get the milk in, when a delivery man knocked. My hand was on the handle, but the man hadn't seen me about to open the door, and I hadn't seen him. There was a sudden lapse of concentration, and even though I was about to open the door, I still took a longer pause than I should have. Somehow, the process of ringing, looking (or waiting, depending on your perspective) and opening skipped a stage, leaving us both a bit confused. He rang, door opened - what happened to waiting!? It was simple, but it threw us both. It was only a Yellow Pages anyway, so he won't be back for a year, and I might not be in then.

I'm like that, I say "Yes" or "No" then depending on their reaction, I'll ask what the question was. I really should just ask right away.

I hate being in noisy places (like a packed pub) when somebody is telling the group a story, because I can never hear anything. If I don't laugh at the end, it looks odd because everyone else did, but if I do, I risk being asked for MY opinion on it. Look like a bit of an idiot when you basically say "I found that funny... what did you actually say?"

My dad does that, but he's virtually deaf - when there's any background noise he can hardly understand a word you're saying. He say's it's like a lottery, trying to figure out whether to agree or disagree.
