yeah, apparently only the first 2 or 3 are any good.
the film isn't really that gory, the scene where he has his ears cut off aren't really that bad, although it definitely deserves its 18 rating.
it's a hilarious black comedy really.

no. the book is not like the film, although some of the stories in the book are in the film.
the film is more of a story of his life up to the point it was made (2000), starting when he was young and in prison, and leading up to where he gets out and beyond.
