The band are Metallica and they release their most popular self titled album (also know as The Black Album)on DVD.
I `think` this is a first and hopefully only the beginning of bands releasing new and classic albums out on DVD and i say it`s about time!
Imagine the new experience of hearing your favourite band/album in dolby digital surround sound, and maybe some of their music video`s put on the DVD too, or some concert footage or maybe a behind the scenes look at the band and a history so far.
I`ve said on a previous post that music companies should take advantage of this format and make use of it`s extra storage capacity and quality of sound.
Singles released with the video for that song on the DVD, or greatest hits DVD`s with all the video`s to complement the songs.
Also even though alot of people have PC`s, some don`t and can`t view video`s that are PC software based which are on some CD`s at the moment, and for music companies putting out music DVD`s with extra`s on and better quality sound will in no doubt make them even more money, so everyone wins!
More music DVD`s i say!
Music DVDs have been out for ages, since the format began. There are many bands to choose from and most of the DVDs contain both music videos and either concert footage or interviews and other extras. Some even contain games based on the artists!
DVD Music is essentially like a music CD, but it has the increased capacity of a DVD, so it can store a couple of music videos as well or anything else they see fit to put on the disc. As it's mostly music tracks it should technically be cheaper too, but the main advantage is that the sound quality is unbelievable, and if you have surround sound then it can often feel like you are in the studio with the band or, in the case of live music, on stage with them.
Whether DVD Music discs catch on or not is really up to the public and whether they see that it's worth maybe buying albums they already own on cd again on DVD. It will certainly be worth watching the market to see what happens.
