First I go in and sit down in a hard plastic chair. Not off to a good start hmph. When then urse approaches me saying "Right we are going to need 3 samples", "3?!" I said, "Yes 3" she said. Oh well I had to go through with it.

Firstly she decided my right arm would be good to try. So she brought out a neddle and plunged it into a vein she had decided to try and "pump up". After sticking it in though...nothing happened. No blood came out she just kept massaging it into my skin hoping to further puncture the vain or something to get blood to come out which, let me tell you, hurts. After accepting failure she went for my left arm. She spent a wee while longer trying to pump up a vein on that arm but I couldn't see anything. Surprise, surprise though NOTHING HAPPENED! She just kept massaging it in and pulling and pushing in on that plunger thing they use in the syringe. It really hurt and was horribly unproductive.

"Right I think I'll let a doctor do it, I don't want to make a pin cushion out of you" she joked. I silently thought to myself though "Yeh well you kind of did after needle number two". Buh a glorified vampire is all she was, piercing my skin and not letting me leave until she had my blood. I waited for the Doctor though and Woo Hoo! It was my normal GP. I like him he is funny and has a clue unlike her. Firstly he gave me back my ECG results. Perfectly normal, allllllllllllllllllllllll right. I still have been having these "episodes" every now and again though so he's thinking of putting me on a longterm ECG so I have to carry around a device that looks like a bloody walkman all day to measure my heart rate and stuff to try and catch it out. The annoying thing is he wants me to get it just after I go back to school. Pfft that'll look good in class. I haev to keep it on for 24 hours:(

Anyway then he tried to take blood in my right arm. Now I have 3 little holes in me but hey presto he got the blood out of me on the first try and he didn't even have to get the vain to come up or anything it just worked. Great man. Now I just need to wait to get the results for that next Thursday.

Do you want to know what the really straneg thing is though? The reason apparently they had trouble getting blood out of me was because sometimes in VERY fit people the vains are smaller than normal. I was asked if I do a lot of excersise but in all honesty the last thing I did that qualifies as excersise was PE in school which I only did for one hour and I've been on holiday for the past 2 weeks so it's not even as if I've been keeping it up. How strange no?

My nurses are inept but not butchers Flockhart. I have no idea about your needle theory though. Could've been.

i'm suprised they didnt just slash your fingers, that's what they do with me,the problem you might have had is that after puncturing the first vein she probably went through it,which would lower the pressure in the vien making it go flat.

Still I think the nurse is inept considering the doctor did it on the first try and she tried twice then gave up. It does not look good for her *files complaint on grouns I am now traumatised by the experience...cough...*

Yup, it took less than 3 minutes. Its pretty routine for me, I'm well used to it, if they can't take it from one vein I'm use to them looking for another. It's nothing big.

Ooh dear. Silly nurse!
I think my dad had to have one of those ECG machines for a couple of days. He was more worried that he couldn't have a shower! Because I don't think you're allowed to take them off.
So.. plenty of people are having blood taken today then! Lucky people. :s
