I've probably spelt the title wrong, but ah well. Anyway, there's not much chance anyone has read this, its a 5 book series written by David Eddings. The first book is called Pawn of Prophecy, but I'm currently on the fourth, Castle of Wizardry. Anyway, it is a very entertaining set of books and if you like fantasy similar to LOTR I suggest you take a look at it.
Naturally, but for a 74 year old, Eddings writes in a manner more suited to a younger man. As you say, his sense of humour is excellent. I must take a look at those other books you speak of.
Yeah, all good stuff. Eddings does fantasy with a nice dry sense of humour! This is the series with Garion and Belgareth in isn't it? Quality stuff. Spans something like two series which are 5 books long each. Really enjoyed them. He did another series called the Elenium and the Tamuli which are pretty nice. The Tamuli is wicked, but you have to go through the Elenium first.
Also like Feist stuff too. The original Magician series was plain class, slightly more serious than Eddings but also avoiding any cliche pitholes that fantasy writers can fall down. Naturally Lord Of The Rings is still the master though!
