Comparing the consoles of today with the gaming platforms of tomorrow is pointless. The advancement in technology has proved to increase at an exponential rate, and any predication of the level of technology in twenty or even thirty years time is a futile exercise.
Twenty years ago, computer scientists thought that 128bit computing was impossible and that the 1GHZ processor speed "barrier" could never we reached, let alone broken. Today we have the Dreamcast and the home PC market is growing rapidly with processor speeds well above the 1GHZ "barrier".
Thirty years ago, there were no home game consoles (or none that I have heard about), and the computer games industry was non-existent. Who's to say that in another thirty years there wont be a gaming industry, or at least of the kind that we have today?
But let us not dwell on doom-and-gloom, because this is simply one possible future (and personally I believe the gaming industry will thrive for many years to come). I am certain, though, that we will continue to be amazed at the progress of technology and the quality and depth of the games of tomorrow.
