I’m not sure if I’ve posted this, but whatever, its a good movie and worth watching if you haven't seen it.

Spider has spent a large portion of his life in a mental institution. As he is released back into the East end London community he was taken from, he wanders his old haunts and starts to remember elements of his past. Did his father murder his mother in order to move a prostitute into the family home, or are Spiders memories false, and a symptom of his illness? As events spiral out of control, can Spider differentiate between fact and his own self-delusion.

Excellent performances from Fiennes, portraying schizophrenia perfectly, Gabriel Byrne who I have always admired as an actor, and Miranda Richardson playing three different people. Its symbolism heavy, as the majority of Cronenberg movies are, but always interesting, unsettling and grubby. Unfortunately, its not half as clever as it thinks it is, as I’d guessed the who and why twenty minutes onto the movie. Still, for Cronenburgs direction its worth watching alone.
