My laptop has a fan, but is barely used unless the CPU is 100% busy. I've noticed the fan has been spinning up more often sometimes for periods of over a minute, even when the CPU is idle.
I've minimised the Task Manager to check that my CPU is definitely not in use when the fan operates; but I do remember not long ago that the fan only spun up when the processor was 100% used. What do you think's happened here? Software that can somehow occupy CPU time without showing up on the Task Manager, or hardware related?

It didn't spin at all when I first got it, save for processor intense activities. As I mentioned, it's now idling and still using it, even with enough ventilation on all sides. I think I'l just do a software reinstall, it seems software related.
It could be something as simple as blocking a vent on the side. High ambient temperature would help make the fan switch on.
As long as it still spins, I wouldn't worry overly much. It's when it doesn't spin you should be worried.
