Can I play LAN multiplayer using my wireless modem/router? I finally figured out how to access files in the laptop and vice versa, and was wondering about installing some LAN games to have a bash on.

Not anymore, that all changed last month. IIRC a lot of LAN titles require you to have individual licence per game now too on LAN

Yeah, but you can just copy the CD, which is completely legal as you are using it for personal use.

Would i be right in saying that you need 2 copies of UT2003 for two people to play each other on a LAN?
I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 and have no issues at all with LAN Gaming across the Wireless. Pushed it to the limit last night with 8 laptops and 4 desktops running of the router in UT2003. No problems whatsoever.
I have a Netgear DG834G - the latest Netgear one. I've never had any 'dropping' problems with it, and I've done some pretty large-load stuff with it.
What wireless router do you have? I guess at the end of the day it depends on how good the router is. I once contacted netgear (about 6months ago) to find out about their wireless routers and I was informed by one of their "technical specialists", via e-mail, that their equipment can drop the connection temporarily if trying to send large files or for possible online gaming. Due to that reply I decided to purchased a wired router which I knew would be 100% reliable. I haven't kept up-to-date on the wireless technology so this may have been improved/fixed but I would still rather plug in an ethernet cable then have it wireless. Something as simple as introducing wireless equipment (usually telephones) can cause havoc with the wireless signal.

Lag is not really related to bandwidth (how many KB/s) but is directly related to latency (response time). I don't know if there is any latency inherent in WLANs, I don't play games on mine. I shouldn't think it'd be a problem.
