Sunday:
I decided it would be a good idea to take off all of my keys and clean it out. This went well until it came to putting the keys back on. I got most of them on with no fuss but the Alt key rebelled and is still stuck down, making it hard to use keyboard shortcuts. The spacebar was reluctant to go down so I bashed it, resulting in it's supports splintering and meaning that it isn't too reliable.

Monday:
I installed iMesh to download some (totally legitimate, uncopyrighted) background music for an animation I was making. Because it is now *shudders* Ad-supported I decided I should delete it because my nice new computer doesnt need GAIN adware blemishes. So I set to work uninstalling it, I chose a custom uninstall so I could get all of the adware too. I deleted this thing called new.net, which, during its installation gives the message, "Network settings altered". I lost access to website because Internet Explorer lost its configurations. I had to reinstall it.

Tuesday:
The computer began going very s-l-o-w-l-y and I was considering dropping it off a the dump. Seems the processor isnt working ass fast as it should be, but I'm getting another 256mb of RAM which should allow me to turn it up a notch. However I spent ages performing loads of system checks and general riddling about with it. *sigh*

Wednesday:
I couldn't, and still can't, download internet components. I need macromedia shockwave, and also cannot do anything in my hotmail inbox, the security settings are messed up (from reinstalling internet explorer) so I can't do anything good. I've emailed Hotmail (from the other computer) but not got a response yet. Another browser sounds mighty tempting.

Thursday:
I was happy because everything was running nice and smoothly. When "pop", "pop-pop". The monitor began going. I did that 'degauss' thing, then about 15 "pop-pop's" later I was left with blackness. Alas, my monitor of 7 trusty years has perished. I'm not typing this without a monitor, I am using the family computer, but hopefully I am getting another one tomorrow.

So, my predictions for the next two days. I am betting on a fire and/or explosion which will absolutely total my machine, or a nice visit from a Trojan or Worm to clean all my coursework off my drive. It's not been a good week for my computer, poor thing.

Yeah, we are learning Java in computing which seems pointless.

You quit college all together then Ali?

Oh and Paradox it will perform at the equivalent of a 2.6GHZ but the real clock will be about 2.1GHZ.

No offence but A Level Computing is a joke. I quit College back in December and went to night school to do a HND in computing (software design) as well as a couple of programming languages seperatley.

I know this doesn't apply to everyone but we were using the original/basic pascal which isn't even recognised these days. Their excuse was that it would give you a solid foundation of other languages but its just crap talk, all languages follow a similar pattern so no matter which one you focus on you will get the basic idea.

2600 should be running at about 2200.

I defragged and the speed is much improved.

I'm still a bit annoyed that it is running at 1.15GHz when It is a 2.6 processor. However, at the moment, it is the least of my worries.

Sounds like you had an interesting week, PC's can be a begger at times, I managed to totally feck up my Gentoo Linux installation meaning it's time for a looooonnnnggg re-installation process, I'm typing this message on a text-based browser whilst gentoo installs.

Anyway, about your problems, you say its a shiny new PC right? Well have
you got many important files on it? You can just write them to a CD-RW, and reformat your PC and re-install XP again. XP has a habit of degrading in speed over time. If you don't want to do that - defrag your PC.

Or just get Linux

*runs*

Also, many people get confused on the function of a processor, being a Computing student it's useful to understand what it does. I doubt your processor is the catalyst thats slowing you machine down. A processor does nothing more then reading binary (0's and 1's), peforming mathmatical funtions and understanding logic

Shame. Yeah, you should download Mozilla Firefox. And give me everlasting credit for playing a crucial role in your week.
