When I first started watching the film I thought my video player was playing up because it was playing in black and white and on the video cover it was in colour. As the film went on I realized there was colour but only when Dorothy was in Oz.
I think that everybody knows the story but if you dont, heres a quick summary.
Dorothys (Judy Garland) house is caught up in a twister and lands in Oz on top op a wicked witch. Dorothy gets the ruby slippers (they dont go well with blue socks) and then the witches sister comes for them.
Dorothy has to get to the Wizard so that she can go come and the witch will do anything to stop her and get the slippers. On her way she meets a scarecrow without a brain, a tin man without a heart and a cowardly lion (he's my favourite). They all go with her to see if the Wizard can help them as well.
In the end he cant but the good witch tells Dorothy to click her heels three times and say 'Theres no place loke home'. Then she wakes up in her bed and it was all a dream.
In all, the film was good and enjoyable for all the family.
See, old films can be good!
I think the 60's and 70's was pprobably the pinnical of film making. Hitchcock produce many classic like Psycho, The Birds, Dial M for Murder,Vertigo etc. Scorosese released Taxi Driver, Mean Streets. You had the Godfather, 1 and 2. Films like Lawrence of Arabia and Dr Strangelove are usually considered in the top 10 films of all times.
For the mega blockbusters you had Star Wars.
I believe that films nowadays are aimed at the younger generation, the young teenagers. With films such as Mission impossible 2. In the '90s I can only think of a few films that were truely amazing. Goodfellas, Shawshank Remption, Pulp Fiction, Reseviour Dogs.
Even before the '60s filns by Orson Welles, like Citizen Kane are considered to be truly great films. 12 Angry Men was one of the most powerful and exhausting films I've ever seen and the Seven Samurai was great.
I may jave missed out on some films deserving of a mention but they're probably already mentioned in poll votes or other surveys.
