Anyways, to cut a short story short, flicked through the channels and ended up on 5 and what was on....?
K1
Wooo!
And for those who don't know what it is, it's a mixed martial arts fight fest, which was started in Japan, but has now started to spread across the globe.
Forget Ultimate World Fighting Championships. That's just boring grappling and then pounding some guys face into the floor.
There's a bit more skill, and traditional martial arts in K1.
Different K1 matches have different rules, so it can sometimes range from almost boxing/kick-boxing, to something along the lines of wrestlemania.
There was this one fight I was watching but it didn't last too long, because the guy with HUGE arm muscels had been punching a bit too hard, and the other guy knocked him back into the ropes. He went down briefly and then stuck out an arm to get the guy to stop! Why? Because he had completely ripped the muscle in his arm. It was quite grosse. His big bulging muscle in his arm (it's too late for me to try and remember what it's called) was hanging loose, flopping around his arm. It was quite amazing to see him show no signs of pain, but happily tap it about and watch it sway!
hehe
Anyways, had a look in the TV guide t'other day and couldn't see K1 in the listings. Not there! :( Saw a program called Martial Arts which was on quite late and decided to tape it and see what it was like. And to my suprise it was K1!
Woo! So all go tape and watch some K1 whenever that Martial Arts program on channel 5 is on this week. It's grrrrrrrrr8!
:)
What time and day is this program on, then?
Some matches they allow you to do throws and some don't. In ones where they do, you get either 1, 2, 3, points on the quality of the throw. i.e. if you opponenet was only partially knocked down, or you managed to pick him up and throw him onto his ar$e/back.
I think it's slightly more traditional martial arts than the UFC, with people actually using techniques from their chosen form, and you get some interesting matches.
