I could have vomited with glee when I finally killed Mercer and got a total score of 1. But that's the end of the story - let me take you back to where it all began.

I invited three mates around to play Halo on my Xbox. It would be the first time I had a four-person deathmatch. It started as usual we had our characters: Daniel, Darren, Lee and (to be difficult this guy just gave us his last name) Mercer. We must have been playing ten minutes and Mercer already had seven points! Lee and I had a handsome zero, and Darren had about three. But Mercer was on fire. Go up the building... punched in the head. Get in a Warthog... and he'd snipe you. On the other side of the screen *in reality* I would punch him in the arm, kick him, rip off his hat and throw it. And I still couldn't beat him.

"Big Deal" you're saying. But the thing is, I'm a good gamer. And Mercer's nothing special. We tried other games like XIII and Unreal Championship, I couldn't win. It happens all the time at my house, yet at someone else's I can be brutal. Anyone else feel that way? Is there a scientific name for it? Is it like that experience where the return journey seems shorter than the original? How come you can NEVER get rid of dust? Why do alot of people like Jet Set Radio Future and I don't?

But enough about that. It's like that sensation when you play the piano infront of a mate to show off the Frankie And Johnnie theme you've just learned; and you screw up! This can't just happen to me, right? If I beat my friends at their houses, it happens to them too. Does it happen to you?

Also thanks to Xbox live we all get a chance to lose in our own houses, and look at it this way: you'd be even less pleased if they let you win, wouldn't you?
