You people know more about this than I do - far more infact.
There, that's the flattery done, here's the fun part.
I'm doing a talk to people about this, and I wondered if you could give me a link to somewhere, or indeed yourself, explain the whole thing about this.
Basically, it's the role of agents in transferring players.
And to be perfectly honest, I've not much of an idea, or at least, it's not quite clear to me how the whole thing works.
So, any help is muchly appreciated.
Oh, and it's on Friday.
Thanks muchly. And this is just one section of my talk.
Cheers again.
Blood-sucking "Leeches" is also a term Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson recently used to describe an agent.
They're supposed to deal with all the handling of their players' transfers and to make sure both sides get a good deal - when, in fact, they only appear to be interested in "their cut"; not giving a flying-duck about how much the others lose-out on, so long as they get theirs.
With money tightening it's grasp on the once-beautiful game, these diseases are only going to breed and multiply. The FA, or whoever, can try to demand as much information as they want; but it won't neccesarily stop anything with all the dodgy-deals that can so-easily go-on behind a manager's back.

Erm.
No, actually.
I was asking for a brief description of how the system works, so I could judge whether to include it in my talk or not, and whether there was enough depth in it to include.

The "agent" can do as much or as little as the player likes. higher profile players will usually have a private agent that looks after his and possibly 1 or 2 other clients, that are all of high profile. in these cases he gets paid alot, because he does more than just negotiating club contracts. he will manage the players profile by talking to the press, aranging photo shoots, using his contact list, etc. he agrees advertising contracts (great effect with david beckham). he manages other areas of the players career and finance. he will be the first number on a players mobile phone.
the bad side of the agent appears to be their ethics and ruthlessness. the agent will play with a club by not calling, not letting his client talk to them, etc. in an attempt to get more money from anxiety. he will have a percentage of the signing on fee as well as a weekly wage. they frustrate clubs as they are difficult to deal with and have been suspected of polluting players minds. this refers to the agent controlling the players day plan and/or boosting players egos (what moyes didn't want with rooney).
now don't think i'm an expert or anything, but this is as far as my knowledge goes. if you want websites, i guess "beckham + agent" or "agent + kewell" in google will come up with some decent pages.
hope this helps :)
